Walking the Overland Track

In April, I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to walk the Overland Track in Tasmania with four of the Waldorf Teachers. We walked the 65km from Cradle Mountain to Lake St Clair in 7 days, with one rest day in the middle at Pelion Plains.

It was the most physically demanding thing I have ever done, as we had to negotiate mountains, swamps and Autumnal weather while carrying our 20kg packs containing our food, bedding and clothing. It was also unexpectedly frightening. Once you get two days into the walk you begin to get a sense of how vast the landscape is. It begins to feel as though you are treading along the back of an inconceivably gargantuan beast, who couldn’t care less about you, and at any point it could move and crush you without a thought.

Having said that. I would definitely do it again.
